Mooooooooo!

We are pleased to announce that we will now be stocking a range of products from the Upper Norton Jersey Cream Co. Based in Church Hanborough (just down the road) they source all of their Jersey milk from Jersey cattle farms in a 30 mile radius. Single Cream, Double Cream, Butter and Creme Freche will be making an appearance on the stalls this weekend, sinfully creamy!

Green meanies

videoAbout a month ago or so, whilst checking the orchard, it became apparant that we had an infestation of green weevily things that had started to munch their way through our first ever crop of nicely set pears! It turns out to be a type of Phyllobius, which we were delighted to learn has no wings, so I set about painting glue bands around the trunks and giving all the trees a damn good shake, quite tiring by the time I got to the 41st tree! Anyway, it has been very successful, and Jon and I watched with amusement as the green meanies tried to make their way back up the trunk, I couldnt help but sing 'Lets stick together' by Roxy music as they climbed!

Catching Up

Hello! Apologies for the long absense in updates, but it has been all work and no play for the last three months or so. To make up for that here's a picture of our over wintered onions we're very proud of and are now available to buy at the stall!
Ramiro Peppers
Well it has been a tough start to the growing season so far, late frosts, cold nights, lack of sunshine has meant things have been very slow to get going, its not been easy unless you're a lettuce, for which it is ideal growing conditions! All of our major planting is now completed, the tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers, squashes, beans etc. are all out and hopefully getting their roots down, here are some pics I took for the blog when I planted out a few weeks back with the full intention to update, so the plants are looking a lot bigger now...

Sadly we lost a few bean and squash plants to the late frost, but had plenty more waiting in the wings to replace them.

Updates & Pics coming Soon!

A hectic couple of months, the end will be in site once the beans and squashes have been planted out, then back to the old routine of sowing watering and weeding! Brief note on whats been happening: beans + cold night = Arghh! Horrible green weevily bug attacking our nicely set fruit in the orchard, toads, tomatoes and ladies fingers! All to be elaborated on when I get time to write it up, coming soon!

Spring!

You certainly know spring is in full swing when the cowslips erupt in the field, a beautiful smattering of yellow nodding heads in the breeze.

Spinach planted out in the polytunnel
Things are overflowing in the greenhouses, and we have been very busy planting out all the little seedlings we have been carefully tending to over the last few weeks.

Lettuce 'Roxy' planted in the second polytunnel

It is undoubtedly the busiest time of year for us, constantly sowing, planting, weeding and watering, which is not helped by the unusually dry weather we have been having. In some cases it is bringing on things far too quickly!
